In-depth analysis of Michelle Thompson

The Globe and Mail-Wetlands by Michelle Thompson.
Michelle Thompson is an illustration artist, she graduated from The Royal college of art in 1996, she has since worked in publishing, editorial and design. Her work includes collaborations with designer Vaughan Oliver. In her work she uses mark making, collage and photography as well as digital processes, her work is abstract and contemporary and she uses typography, traditional collage and digital techniques such as Photoshop. She lives in Saffron Walden in the UK with her partner and two sons.
I have chosen to analyse this photograph as it is a bit different from the other two I analysed and I like that it is a collage as it is interesting to look at and there is a lot to look at.

I think that the genre of this photograph is contemporary and collage, I'm not sure what the title of this piece of work tells us as I don't understand the title it's self. The materials and techniques used in her work are collage, typography and Photoshop, her work is bright and colourful and she uses both warm and cool colours that contrast against each other. Michelle uses different shapes in her work as well as scribble and patches of colour. This all adds to the texture of the image with the different layers. The patterns also add to the texture in the background with different shades.

I have chosen to look at this image as it is very colourful and interesting to look at, also I could use ideas and aspects of it to my own work, but make it fit to my theme of portraiture. My first reaction to it was that I liked it and it was very colourful. This has inspired me to try something similar with my own work.
