Typeography

I created this image using photoshop, I liked this experiment because it made me more comfortable with photoshop. I created this by using photoshop to seperate the midtones and the shadows from the rest of the image, I copied and pasted a paragraph of text about landscapes to go with my theme of landscapes. I used the text as a stamp to make different sizes of text and I used the gradient tool to colour the image. The problem that I had with this task was finding a landscape image that had enough midtones to create the right effect and wasn't too dark so you could still tell what the image was.
Step by step:
To create this typography image, i had to first pick an image from my chosen theme, Landscapes.
I then followed the instructions from a tutorial on youTube.
I opened my image in Adobe Photoshop. Using the original image I did;
 >Select
-  Colour range
- Shadows
-Ok
- comand C
- comand V
This created a new layer that only showed the shadows from the original image. I then did the same but this time selected the Mid tones. I merged my two new layers together so that i had one layer that had both the mid tones and shadows in it.
I then googled my theme landscapes and copyed and pasted a paragraph of text into a word document. I then created a new document in Photoshop and pasted my text into it, from here i changed the font/style and size of the text.
I then created a stamp from the text so i could add it to the image multiple times. I clicked;
-Edit
- Define brush preset.
 I then created a new layer and selected the brush tool, I select the stamp I made. I then used the stamp to cover the new layer, I did this in a few different sizes. I then created a layer mask on my first layer. I then selected all by pressing;
-comand A
and then copied it;
-cmd C.
-I held the alt key and clicked on the layer mask, I then pressed
-comant v to paste it in.
I then High lighted the masked layer clicked
-comand D to declect it
-cmd I to invert it
I then created a new white layer to put behind the text layer so it is easier to see.
From the drop down menu I selected Gradient this allowed me to add colour to the text.
-Select Gradient
-Screen
-Blend mode
- Pick a gradient
-change the colours/angle
I then selected a soft brush and then brushed over the text this made some areas more detailed and easier to see. I then saved my final image as a jpg file.
Here are some screen shots of the process;
